Case Study 10
Azoospermic , TESE, IVF-ICSI, donor sperm, IUI

Mr I underwent TESE to extract sperm from his testes. The couple had 2 cycles of IVF-ICSI using his TESA sperm in Belgium but failed.

They relocated to Singapore and chose TFC for treatment. The couple opted for IUI donor insemination, obtaining sperm from a sperm bank. Five vials were purchased. In the first cycle at TFC, Mrs I was stimulated with clomid before the IUI donor insemination. Unfortunately, it resulted in an ectopic pregnancy for which she had surgery but with the fallopian tubes kept intact. She returned for the second attempt at donor insemination but failed to get pregnant. She persisted and at the third attempt of IUI, she was successful and delivered a beautiful baby boy. Nine months later, she returned for another IUI and she was successful again. This time it’s a baby girl! To maximize her chances of getting a baby from the remaining vial of sperm, she requested for IVF even though she could get pregnant by IUI. In the IVF cycle, she had 11 eggs out of which 10 fertilised. Two embryos were replaced and she successfully delivered twin girls. They still have 7 embryos in storage.

Mr and Mrs I could’nt be happier now that they have a family of 4 children which is what they always wanted. Now it remains for them to decide what they wish to do with the frozen embryos!
